I am honoured to have been asked to curate this exhibition at the Arts Club

(RA) & Hon. R.W.S. R.E. R.P. and Marco Russo Di Chiara from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, Thursday 15 July at the

Leonard McComb’s
exhibition of paintings, drawings, monotypes and etchings are charged with what
he called ‘essential vibrant stillness’. The two paintings of white tulips in a
vase, and that of the elderly painter Carel Weight, are perfect examples of his
poignant portraits and demonstrate a mysterious intimacy with the subject. He
was elected a Royal Academician in 1990 and has been influenced by English
painters, Blake particularly, Constable and Turner, but it is the spirit of
French painters such as Poussin, Daumier and Cézanne that have moved him most.
Marco Russo Di Chiara was born in 1983 in Sicily. He was trained in
childhood by his father as a painter and studied at the Central St. Martins
College of Art & Design in London, 2008. He has exhibited in Palermo, Rome
and London. He is also a TV Film Director, currently directing the famous
Italian soap “Un Posto al Sole” (A Place Underneath the Sun). Marco’s
exhibition “Absences” presents a corpus of oil paintings where threads of
contorted iron, flowers and other metal objects fade and disappear, finding rest
in the light of nothing and express the need for absence. http://www.marcorussodichiara.com
